Over the next few years, this small organisation grew in notoriety as Dia realised she was far too talented to limit her stealing to supermarkets. After one job ended in her blocking a police car via the use of magic, a journalist caught up to her and asked for her organisation's name. Dia just told him to fuck off, but the "fuck off mafia" ended up becoming the only known name for another two years until Dia signed off a letter as "Chiennes d'Armes". It was under this name that the group made their public (but little-cared-about) declaration that they would be protecting Offetstine's communities and small businesses.

After more of the same for a while, the fall of the [[Coalition]] in Offetstine opened some new opportunities for the Chiennes d'Armes. During this time, Dia started to focus less on theft and more on importing foreign goods (most notably subtitled VHS tapes of foreign movies and TV shows).
While she did this, the other founding members made deals with some local businesses to regularly report information on the [[Ringleaders]], a new organisation formed from Coalition remnants. As more time passed and more Chiennes d'Armes members left, Dia grew more personally attached to these few business owners as they started to feed more varied information back to her. Shortly afterwards, the Chiennes d'Armes formally disbanded and Dia was left alone to handle her information and imports.

== Abilities ==
Dia, being demon enough for Darkflame (demon sorcery) and human enough for Gallurdi (a near-extinct human wizardry), is in a unique position in terms of magic use. She has the versatility of being able to access both sides, and can "double up" on the small overlap in function to effectively be more powerful than any pure demon.

Demon sorcery is powerful on its own, but only demons (with few exceptions, such as half-demons) can physically use it. Demon sorcery, sometimes referred to as Darkflame, has two real uses. The first is to augment the user's strength and speed. This can be as subtle or obvious as the user wishes, though most pure demons don't have a reason to hide their magic. When lightly used, there is rarely any visible tell (aside from the user possibly achieving things they usually couldn't). With heavier use however (such as that of most pure demons), visible Darkflame residue will be left behind after quick movements.

The second use of Darkflame is manipulation of the sorcerous energy itself. Users can draw Darkflame from their body and fully control it within a range dependant on their magical aptitude (ranging from 1m to around 7m, Dia can reach about 4m), with it becoming significantly harder to control nearer the limit of their range. Dia's main use of this power is simply utility, creating a small blade to cut open boxes. In combat, she falls back on the more common demonic technique of coating her fists in Darkflame and letting that be a simple destructive addition to her enhanced agility. Other traditional techniques exist, but she ignores them.

Gallurdi, a form of wizardry originally devised to fight demons, is the opposite in that anything completely inhuman that attempts to use it dies. The core of the style is built around amplifying the user's own physical abilities, just like one can with demon sorcery. Unlike demon sorcery, there is absolutely no visual effect. Gallurdi also includes miscellaneous other spells, but of these Dia only had time to learn three: A glorified flashlight, a glorified lighter, and a simple healing aura.

The first of these was acting, which was mostly unsuccessful with her only appearing in one student-budget action movie. The director, with all his unrealistic expectations, asked Clover to practice actual firearms and martial arts techniques in order to appear more realistic on camera. Unexpectedly, Clover ended up being naturally extremely proficient in firearms. She entered whatever competitions she could, which became her primary form of income for a while. For this period of her life, she always had a decent amount in savings (and could easily win more if she would ever start to run out).

Around the age of 22, Clover relocated to [[Offetstine]] from her home just outside Winthorpe. She ended up moving into a flat above a small abandoned retail property (which she later also purchased, 'just in case'). Despite this, when she broke into the court centre mid-trial to get the evidence seen, it was dismissed for rather obvious reasons. Her friend ended up with a Whole Life Order, and Clover herself almost given 18 months before a last-minute change of mind.

By now the investigation had re-opened and re-concluded, with the real killer being found shot dead in their home. Unfortunately, Clover's friend had been murdered in prison days earlier.

In autumn 1994 Clover was approached by Dia Silver, another long-time friend and leader of the Chiennes d'Armes (an extremely small local criminal organisation, only even really able to function alongside distractions such as the [[Coalition]]). Dia proposed that in exchange for Clover letting her use some spare storage space for a few months, she would give her discounts on certain goods and other favours. This arrangement essentially put the two back in touch for the first time in years, and they ended up being close friends once again (with a highly-inconsistent intimate side thrown in). Throughout this time, Dia occasionally mentioned her half-demon nature but Clover kept writing it off as a joke.

Clover is a short (Around 145cm (or 4ft9in for the goblins)) woman with green eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair, usually tied back for convenience. She often wears a simple black and white suit (with a bullet hole on the left side), or a more casual outfit consisting of a pale yellow t-shirt and a grey coat (featuring even more bullet holes). The anime comes as a sequel to the lesser-known manga series 聖戦!! ("Holy War!!") and is so far the only officially-localised piece of media in the franchise.

== Plot ==
The year is 124 D.I., a little over a century since the last major Inquisition. '''Rain Ueivus''', the strongest of the Holy Knights, has just returned from a previous assignment and enters the High Priest's office. The Priest, named '''Leonado Deez''' informs her of undead activity in some towns to the east, and tasks her with eliminating the cause. Ueivus buys a burger from her favourite store (making sure to make good use of her few hours back in her home city) and heads directly to Printos, the centre of the undead activity.

There, she discovers an old tower now inhabited by the Necromancer '''Nichol'''. After some fighting and debate, Nichol convinces Ueivus that the undead are helping rebuild the nearby towns, still damaged after the Inquisition. Ueivus doesn't fully trust her, but agrees to help oversee efforts as the people really need it. The two continue to work together, with Ueivus having a lot of time to think about her orders and allegiances.

This was due to a weirdly high interest in the original story in western Europe. When Zagreus Cross later got a second season, the English dub was not continued. Later releases in the 2010s came with new English voiceover, as well as versions in French and Italian.

The first formal standard created for species taxonomy was the Paris-Warszawski Standard, sometimes abbreviated the Paris Standard, developed by half-angel Melville Paris and human Leopold Warszawski in the late 1800s, as a means of "classifying the children of God who must otherwise cower from Their light". Unlike the later Émile Standard, the Paris Standard was primarily phylogenetic, and attempted to trace the roots of magic of each species under its scope.

The standard fell out of use early after its introduction, as the religious undertones turned away many would-be contributors and the research proved broadly unhelpful. Few demi-humans were interested in a taxonomical classification tool at the time, especially one that so desperately lacked diversity in the ranks of its founding members, and the standard was broadly recognized as doomed from the very start.

The nomenclature of the Paris Standard was not standardized across languages. During their first publication cycle, the pair wrote and translated various technical documents between English, Polish and French, maintaining no version to be strictly canonical out of fear of discrimination. In practice, though, the subtle inconsistencies between the documents and necessary liberties of translation harshly impacted the precision of the Paris Standard.

After four years and nine publications, three of which annual journals on the state of demi-human taxonomy authored by Paris and Warszawski themselves, and only three of which authored by third parties, the Paris Standard died a quiet death.

The Émile Standard was developed by human illustrator [[Constance Émile]] in the early 1990s, and spread primarily through online bulletin-board communication over the course of the next few years. Unlike the earlier Paris Standard, the Émile Standard focused on phenotypical traits and aimed to help demi-humans understand themselves better.

Further unlike the Paris Standard, the Émile Standard was nomenclaturally, though not functionally, inspired by [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linnaean_taxonomy Linnean taxonomy]. Recognizing that the lack of consistent terminology was a significant component of the downfall of the Paris Standard, Émile proposed a naming convention based on mock Latin, interspersed with morphology derived from Latinized forms of Greek, English and others.

Rather than attempting to trace the history and origin of various demi-human species, following roots through the willful realization of fiction, the folly of avant-garde mages and the simple natural variation of magic that underpinned and facilitated demi-humanity, the Émile Standard proposed a simpler three-tiered classification that described the kingdom, order and subspecies of a given species based on their existential relation to mundane humans, and the extent to which magic affected their powers and behaviors.

To that extent, even though many species that shared similar characteristics hailed from vastly different magical sources, they were usually classified similarly. For example, most species that roughly mimic the folklore conception of the European vampire are classed ''Infernalis Sanguis.''

To accommodate the possibility of half-breed species, Émile proposed the prefix ''Dimidium'' (abbrev.: ''Di.'') in the same spirit as the real-world prefix ''Candidatus'' (abbrev: ''Ca.'') for bacterial phyla that are yet uncultured. Whereas the common [[Eris vampire]] is classified ''Infernalis Sanguis Erisi'' (abbrev: ''S. Erisi''), the respective dhampir is classed ''Di. S. Erisi.'' Classifications are usually derived from folklore, and when a species is best described as a hybrid, especially if members do have hybrid ancestry, the taxon is usually described as a concatenation of prior gena's names.

== Mechanics ==

The modern Émile system uses a three-tiered classification modeled after Linnean taxonomy. Following the analogy, the uppermost tier is often referred to as the kingdom, while the lower two tiers are referred to as the genus and subspecies (as opposed to Linnean "species") respectively.

While the genus and subspecies are dynamically allocated based on common folklore and have no specific system, there are a fixed set of four kingdoms which all other taxa inherit from, as follows:

* ''Mundanus,'' typically referencing species such as [[animal-folk]] which are indisputably demi-human, but usually whose demi-humanity only confers superficial traits. Demi-humans of the ''Mundanus'' kingdom are more often mages than regular humans, but are not usually affected by their nature very much.
