New page

Official policy

Notability, or the General Notability Guideline, abbreviated GNG refers to the criterion on which articles should be included or deleted from the Offetstine Wiki. This is akin to its namesake policy in Wikipedia, wherein articles are included based on their relevancy to the real world. As Offetstine is a worldbuilding interest group and a primary source, the criterion for inclusion differs somewhat from that of its antecedent.

This guideline is upheld in the interest of allowing the wiki to guide new roleplayers and allow them to digest the important concepts of the world. As juxtaposed to the earlier version of this wiki, since defunct but hosted graciously by the team at Miraheze (archive) the new Offetstine Wiki is not a location to elaborate gratuitously on concepts that do not have broader relevance to the world. Users are encouraged to add idiosyncratic articles to their user page, which shall not be policed on the GNG.

Criteria
Articles in the Offetstine Wiki ought to be kept if they serve a significant interest to the community, whether to facilitate future worldbuilding, roleplay, or community discussions. Furthermore, articles ought to be included if they have significant historical interest, even if they may not have further present influence.

* <p>Metafiction, herein referring to works of fiction which exist in-universe but not in real life, such as Zagreus Cross, may be included insofar as it contributes to a wider interest. For example, metafictional works may encourage roleplayers to define their characters as fans of the work. However, among works that do not deserve to be included are Venus' Riches, a metafictional mystery novel coined in passing solely to facilitate a single roleplay.</p>
* <p>Historical events deserve to be included by default as long as they have affected a sufficient number of roleplayers. For instance, events such as the fall of the Coalition are well deserving of elaboration, as well as the criminal organization itself, despite its defunct nature. Among events that do not warrant inclusion are the Foggiest Night of Offetstine, an early (21 October 1996) community event which saw little to no participation, and remained irrelevant to all or most character stories.</p>
* <p>Landmarks may be included if they serve public interest. For example, Rainbow in the Moon ought to be included insofar as it is a public location and has been used by a number of roleplayers. Landmarks which only single characters have vested interest in, such as Versace Heritage Butchery, a corporate front to the Serpents owned by Sonia Versace, may be mentioned on their respective character's page if their character has an article.</p>
* <p>To that extent, concepts including people (Constance Vivas), places (Winthorpe) and in-universe principles (magic) may be included on the same criteria, public interest.</p>

As it may be unclear whether or not an article matches the criteria of the GNG, contributors may expect to defer to moderators for a formal statement on whether or not an article may be included.

Beta exception
While the wiki is in beta, administrators are encouraged to abide by an inclusionist policy, in order to develop a sufficient corpus to be further pruned and refined. As the wiki enters stable classification, extraneous articles are expected to be pruned or moved to the User: namespace as subpages of their respective creators' pages.
